Dr. Michael Pearl was born and raised in California. While studying for an undergraduate degree in marine biology, Dr. Pearl worked for an ambulance company. It was during this time that Dr. Pearl decided to pursue a career in medicine. Dr. Pearl graduated from University of California San Francisco School of Medicine in 1986. He then stayed on at UCSF and completed a four year residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Following graduation from residency in 1991, Dr. Pearl took one year off to travel extensively throughout Southeast Asia and Australia. When he returned, he completed a three-year fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Michigan Medical Center. After completing fellowship in 1994, Dr. Pearl moved to New York to join Dr. Chalas and the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He is an Associate Professor and Director for the Division of Gynecologic Oncology within this department. In 1997, Dr. Pearl joined Dr. Chalas as two of the founding members of Long Island Gynecologic Oncologists, PC.
In addition to patient care, Dr. Pearl enjoys the academic pursuits of teaching and research. He oversees the research program for the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at SUNY Stony Brook. He has given more than 100 lectures both locally and nationally, and has published more than fifty clinical papers and three book chapters. He serves as a reviewer for four esteemed medical journals and participates on national committees within his professional societies. He chairs one of the Institutional Review Boards (IRB) committees at Stony Brook. Dr. Pearl is the principal investigator for the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG) at Stony Brook. In addition, he is a collaborator on other NIH/NCI research projects conducted within the University. Dr. Pearl has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. He is board certified in
Obstetrics and Gynecology & Gynecologic Oncology by the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ABOG).
Dr. Pearl is married and has one daughter, Alexis, whom he adores. He holds a third degree blackbelt in Jui-Jitsu. His other passions include gardening, traveling, bicycling and scuba diving. |
